New Mobile Homes Act

The Mobile Homes Act 2013 received Royal Assent on 26 March 2013.

The problems caused by the behaviour of a small but growing number of site owners gave rise last year to reports by both the Communities and Local Government Department and House of Commons Select Committee, and then a Bill which received universal support in Parliament such that this Act was passed so quickly.

As soon as 26 May 2013, many of the new provisions will come into force, for instance in relation to sales of park homes, park rules and pitch fee increases. Other parts will come into force later.

Commenting on the Act, partner Tim Selley, who was appointed Specialist Advisor for the Select Committee enquiry, said “It is good news that these changes are now coming in so speedily and hopefully they will help home owners who have difficulties with some site owners. However I have already heard reports of some efforts being made by these site owners to try to “get around” the changes. So I am sure even if this new Act helps home owners greatly there will still be problems. Also these changes make it even more important for people thinking of becoming home owners to take advice before they buy.”
